Dove Hunting in Texas: Hunt a Working Cattle Ranch Near Dallas–Fort Worth

Dove hunting in Texas is about first light over a stock tank, the whistle of wings and a good shotgun in your hands. At Twin Canyons Ranch, those mornings happen on a working cattle ranch on the Brazos, close enough to Dallas and Fort Worth that you don’t have to drive halfway across the state. If you’ve been searching for dove hunting near Dallas or near DFW, this is where to start.

Ask a Texas hunter about dove season and you’ll hear stories of early mornings, friends lined up along the edge of a field, and a cooler of birds at the end of the day. A lot of folks assume a great dove hunt means a long drive south. If you live in Dallas, Fort Worth or anywhere in the Metroplex, there’s an option a lot closer to home.

Why hunt doves in Texas with us

Close to home

Skip the long haul. From Fort Worth, Granbury and the Pecan Plantation area, the ranch is an easy drive, so you can hunt and still make it home. From Dallas, it makes a great overnight trip.

Make it a hunting weekend

This is where Twin Canyons is different from a bare field lease. After the hunt, stay in one of our seven waterfront villas or bring the whole crew to the 8-bedroom Barn Suite. Call (817) 857-2624 for group sizes. The villas have fully equipped kitchens and private patios, so everyone can relax together after a day outside.

Dinner and a cold drink on site

Black Star Grille is right here on the ranch, with burgers made from our own ranch-raised beef and a full bar. On Fridays there’s happy hour from 4:30 to 6 PM and free live music from 7 to 9 PM.

“The scenery surrounding the house was absolutely gorgeous, with water, cattle roaming the ranch, and plenty of wildlife. Being on a private ranch made the entire experience feel very peaceful, secluded, and safe.”

— Jimmy D., guest

A typical Texas dove hunting weekend

Picture it: roll in Friday afternoon, catch happy hour at Black Star Grille and settle into a villa. Head out for the hunt, then come back to clean up, swap stories and cook dinner in the villa kitchen. Spend the off hours on clays, fishing or a UTV ride across the property, and enjoy the quiet of ranch country after dark. It’s the hunting trip with a little more comfort built in.

Dove hunting in North Texas for new hunters, too

If you’re bringing a son, daughter or friend on their first dove hunt, a ranch setting with lodging and food on site makes it easy. Spend some time on sporting clays first to build confidence, then head to the field together.

“If you ever want to just get away from the big city life , This is the place to be.”

Hunting with heart

Twin Canyons is a working ranch, and we take pride in caring for the land, the cattle and the wildlife that share it. Respect for the property and for each other is part of every hunt here. When you’re done in the field, the herd is still out in the pasture and the Brazos is still rolling by, and that’s a big part of why folks come back year after year.
